Mentorship

The Nesivos mentoring program is designed to provide a healthy outlet for teens under the guidance of a caring and positive role model. The mentors will guide these young adults in making responsible choices, pursuing educational and career goals, and developing life skills.

Mentors will meet with clients in the clients’ natural environment. Mentors will work with clients to determine the most comfortable place of meeting ie. school, after school program, community setting, faith based organization, etc.

Mentors will meet 1 to 1 with clients on a weekly basis. Sessions will be flexible enough to accommodate clients’ schedules, with the mentor spending at least 1.5 hours with their clients per meeting. In addition, Nesivos will provide supervision to new mentors on a weekly basis, and to the seasoned mentors on a monthly basis. All supervision will be provided by a licensed mental health professional.

At its most basic level, mentoring helps because it guarantees a young person that there is someone who cares about them. A child is not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges.
Our mentors are trained specifically to deal with issues such as:

  • Lack of self-esteem;
  • Poor school
  • performance/Grade retention;
  • Absenteeism;
  • Discipline problems at school;
  • Substance abuse.

Nesivos of Lakewood, NJ was created to provide a network of services for teens and families in crisis, utilizing a combination of trained professionals, mentors, and community support services.
